Throughout the week, October 13-17, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (Chancellor’s Office) encourages colleges to host local workshops, policy forums, and campus events focused on reimagining support structures—centering cultural affirmation, trauma-informed practices, and access to life-changing resources like experiential learning, fellowships, and entrepreneurship pathways. Together, we move beyond barriers to create a future where all students thrive.

Prieto is a powerful one-man coming-of-age show that follows Reyes’ journey growing up queer and undocumented in East San José. Through humor, vulnerability, and sharp cultural insight, the play explores identity, belonging, and resilience in systems not built for us. Dynamic and deeply relevant, Prieto offers students a unique experience of personal storytelling that weaves together themes of immigration, queerness, and social justice—while celebrating joy in the face of adversity.

Effective Strategies: Undocumented Student Advising and Employer Engagement Objectives ● Become familiar with laws, programs, and services providing income-generating and career development opportunities to undocumented students ● Learn how to advise students on pursuing entrepreneurship and independent contracting opportunities, which do not require work authorization ● Learn how undocumented students can navigate financial barriers (beyond scholarships) ● Identify specific topics to bring up during conversations with employers and external partners as it relates to undocumented students ● Practice advising undocumented students through role play scenarios.
These trainings are designed and open to all college staff.

Supporting Undocumented Students at SRJC – Protocols and Procedures

An in-depth review of the proposed best practices for supporting our undocumented students, including protocols and procedures to follow if Immigration Enforcement Officers are present on campus.
At the end of the presentation, individuals can ask questions or share comments. This presentation portion of this session will be recorded and will be available for individuals who are not able to attend.
